  1. Date : 2016-04-29
    Speaker: Sumin Cho
    Evaluator: Euiyeon Kim
    Title : A person I admire

    1. What strong points does the speaker have?
    - First of all, her jump start is very effective. She got the audience's attention and interest by making them imagine the subject's hardships and sympathize with them.
Another one of her strong points was her nonlinguistic and nonverbal communication. She used a very serious voice tone to convey emotion, and different kinds of gestures and body language to help the audience visually as they listened to the speech. She paused at times when she wanted to emphasize some part, and used differing intonation to keep the speech interesting to listen to.

    2. How well did the audience get to know the speech subject?
-The audience was able to learn about the subject's past and current life, and the challenges that she faced and overcame.

    3. Did the speech reflect adequate preparation?
    - I could see that she had elaborately planned out the speech and practiced it because the speech was quite organized and neat.

    4. Did the speaker talk clearly and audibly?
    - Yes. She talked clearly with a powerful voice.

    5. Did the speech have a definite opening, body, and conclusion?
    - She talked about the 'Youtube incident' in the opening, described her life and hardships in the body, and concluded with reflections on her own life and a question to the audience.

    6. Please comment on the speaker’s use of notes/eye contact.
    - She did look down at her notes from time to time, but it did not disturb her from making effective eye contact with the audience.

    7. What could the speaker have done differently that would have improved the speech?
    - It was good that she used plenty of body language in her presentation, but at some parts the actions were a bit repetitive and distracting. (for example- holding and shaking her hands at around 1:30)

    8. What did you like about the presentation?
    - I loved how she delivered the speech. I was especially impressed by the way she used pauses to effectively create an atmosphere. This technique got the audience to focus more on the speech. It taught me that pauses and silences count. I also loved the content itself. She talked about how Lizzy inspired millions, and how she learned a valuable life lesson from this woman. The speech got me thinking about my own life, my own identity and self-esteem.

Thank you, Sumin, for such a powerful speech! I was very moved. :)
